Hi there,

My name is Nicole and I'm married with two young kids (3 1/2 & 1 year.) I live in Las Vegas, NV and I work full time as a Legal Office Assistant. I don't get to bake very often, usually because every five minutes I have to check on that noise coming from my son's room. The most common phrases heard around my house are, "What are you doing?" and "Why did you do that?" The cakes I love are the Snickerdoodle cake, the banana cake with the quick carmel frosting, and the strawberry one. I'm excited about this board and I'm looking to find more tips on frosting cakes. I can never get it just right. Thanks for reading.

Nicole

Hello - Jen here. First off I would like to thank all of you for this fabulous message board. I have a DH Red Velvet in the oven now that I doctored even more after going over old posts. I live in WI on the beautiful Lake Michigan lakeshore. Married, stepkids almost grown, cat and a black pug. Favorites are Honey-Bun Cake
Biscotti
Gooey Butter Cakes (any)
Fresh Orange Cake with Orange cream cheese frosting
Cranberry oat bars
I could not limit myself to just the cakes. Also, my husband's family b-day cake is chocolate with peanut butter frosting. They have extreme loyalty to some scratch recipe that has been in the family for years.
Arrrrrrrrgh, it is dry and the frosting is crusty! I made Anne's version to great reviews. He he he, change CAN be good!
Thanks again for the great community!

Hi, everybody!

I live in Chesapeake, VA, and have been baking for (gasp!) over 30 years. I am married to my childhood sweetheart (second marriage) and we have been co-caterers for about 15 years now.

My preference is wedding cakes but you know how it is: you make one cute birthday cake and there you go. I have repeat customers who want Mickey, Minnie, etc., and those who will not go elsewhere, no matter what the occasion. When they have dinner parties, more and more business cards are required. It's wonderful!

My husband is the cook in the house and I am the baker. Works nicely. He even offers suggestions when I'm producing my customers' creations. Once he did something magical with a fork and #18 star tip. There's hope for him yet!

I am a Human Resources professional (by necessity) and my husband is a quality assurance auditor with Kraft Foods. I'm 2 questions away from being a licensed Real Estate agent, as well.

I have an adult daughter, Tawnja, who has 4 children of her own - how I love my grandbabies! My son, Rick, is deceased, but has two beautiful and extremely talented sons who live in Mass.

I bought Anne's Cake Mix Doctor book a very long time ago and while I have tried over half the recipes there, I have not been able to get past the Lemon Poppyseed Cake for many of my customers. (Good thing I've memorized the recipe because that page is a mess!) I added or subtracted here and there to make the recipe mine, but my folks can't get enough of it! For the dieters, I'm forced to provide cupcakes (this makes them feel that it's OK to have this excellent morsel in moderated format.).

I'm so grateful to this woman, Anne - and to all of you - for this is truly a wonderful forum.

Soon I will provide a list of web sites I've found that perhaps you've not learned of yet. For those who use fondant (weddings, etc.), I've found cutters, formers, fondant/sugarpaste recipes and so much more.

Bake happily (and to your monetary advantage when possible)!

-marian

Well, I'm not new. I'm suelovestocook, but after I tried changing some things in my profile, I tried and tried to log back in, but finally, decided just to re-register. So here goes! Lol.

My fav cakes have ranged from the Devil's Food to the birthday cake, but now, I can say it's The Hershey Bar Cake. Made it last week for a get together and it was gone before the party ended. Thank goodness, I enjoyed one slice. What a wonderful cake, and so easy to take along in a cake carrier.

Hi Everyone,
I'm excited to find this website as I am trying to be creative in my baking and expand our tastebuds! I now have Anne's CMD cookbook and so far the cakes have been a huge success with my family and friends.

My name is Regina, I'm divorced and have 3 daughters and 1 son. The two older girls are away at college this year. Great for them but sad for me. One is in Honolulu and the other is studying in Milwaukee. I am a stay at home mom and will be starting school for nail technology in a couple of weeks. I live in IL near the WI border. My days are filled with daily chores, bible study, hanging out w/my boyfriend and now lots of baking. In addition to my two dogs we just got a ferret!

Right now my favorite cakes are: sock it to me, susan's lemon, honey bun, pina coloda and cherry dump.

It's been fun reading everyone's post and learning from your wisdom and experience.

I am a 34 year old mother of 6 - 14 yr old daughter, 12 year old triplets, 8 year old daughter and a 2 year old daughter.

I LOVE white wedding cake. Being in the midwest we've recently discovered Red Velvet. I make it from scratch and my kids request it all the time.

Hi all! My name is Stacia and have been learning a lot from all of the great posts on here.
I am married and live in Northern Illinois. We have a 2 year old daughter named Lia.
I honestly was never a big fan of cake until I tried one of the recipes from CMD. I was hooked! I enjoy lemon cake and chocolate cake. My daughter asks to "make" every day after nap time. Ha! I guess we've been playing in the kitchen a lot lately.
Anyway, I look forward to more learning and experimenting in the kitchen. :D

Susan, welcome to the board! :D Glad you found us and decided to post! The chocolate covered cherry cake is one of my favorites too! Sometimes I make it as cupcakes, and put a cherry on top of each cupcake. There are many other chocoholics on the board, so you can find friends here, too!

Hi, I am Darla and finding these books made me a baking goddess to my friends and family, so thank you.
My favorite recipes are:
Honeybun cake
Blueberry Muffin Cake
Classic Yellow cake w/ Chocolate buttercream frosting
Red Velvet Cake
Chocolate covered Cherry Cake
I would like to also say I have changed the chocolate in that recipe to white cake mix and used white baking chips instead of chocolate. It was outstanding and a nice change on a delicious recipe. :D
