I have a small problem...I want to make the chocolate covered cherry cake for my boyfriends birthday. He LOVES chocolate cake, but HATES cherries! Ugh. Everytime I make the choc covered cherry cake, the cherries are bended so well into the mix, you'd have to hunt hard to see them. BUT....he still doesn't want them in there. Has anyone found an equally good alternative that will keep the cake super moist and oh so yummy tasting?

Please help! The cake goes into the oven April 28th!!!

You can use any flavor of the canned pie fillings in the chocolate covered cherry cake. In my area I have seen strawberry and raspberry. I made that cake once using a spice cake mix instead of chocolate cake mix and apple pie filling instead of cherry pie filling and it was still deliciously moist. Just make sure what you substitute is the canned pie filling and that it equals a 21 oz. can (here the raspberry comes in a smaller can so you have to buy a couple).

I've done the spice cake variation too - yummy stuff!! He's a tough cookie...he doesn't like raspberries either believe it or not. I'm really trying to find a way to keep it all chocolate but with the added moistness from the canned pie filling.

You know, there's a part of me that wishes I hadn't said anything about the cherries. He'd never know they were in there!
