I'm new to the forum and haven't intro-ed myself yet, but just want'ed to say.....I'm glad to hear others are having trouble finding the Orange Cake the recipe calls for....I thought for the longest time I was losing it or definitely shopping on the wrong days since there was nary an orange cake to be found. Glad to know to keep looking. Thanks, IllinoisLady

Hi IllinoisLady - we're glad to see you posting and hope you'll join us often. It is so frustrating when some flavors just go to certain areas. We had orange available here for awhile, then it disappeared but it recently reappeared so don't give up. I've never seen a Swiss Chocolate or Dark Fudge Butter Recipe mix in this area (I could add other flavors too). I've done everything but take the grocery stores a cake (Hey, now THERE'S an idea!) trying to convince them to order. It must be the manufacturer's marketing department making those decisions. While you're searching and waiting, I hope you'll try the Fresh Orange Cake. If you start looking at all the posts (or do a search at the bottom of the page) you'll see lots of discussion about it. It's one of our favorites. Some say not enough of an orange "punch" but if you add zest to the batter too it's really great. Some add a little orange extract also.

Hi! IllinoisLady, Welcome to the board, and just keep looking for that orange cake mix, because about the time we think we will never find something it appears on the shelf somewhere. Another thing if someone here finds something that is hard to find they very often will give us a heads up about where we can find it, so keep coming back. You never know, and we do learn so much from one another.

In the meantime I'll agree with Carolyn. It is a good cake by using the orange zest and orange extract.

There are also, so many other good cakes in the books, and very often someone will do a review about one they have made.

Thats so much for the info yesterday. I was so excited to find out someone else was having the same (finding the cake )problem that until I read your replies I had forgotten that I live only a block ---and I hate to admit it's a very short one too, from a man who runs the Duncan Hines cake plant here in town. In reality the company name is Glister-Mary Lee. I could probably run over and pose a question or so to him and get some hopefully good/favorable answers. Of course, he's only coporate on a local level--- Centralia where I live is a very small town, but no reason why he might not be able to shed some light on why only certain FLAVORS seem prevalent. I should mention that I've been to all stores in town here. I can go a few miles away and try there. This is not a big problem as in a town this size ( only 15,300 ) you customarily go out of town for things  Anyway---I'll be more than happy to share any info I might be able to come up with at the neighbors. I am also ashamed to say--it never occured to me to go over and ask Mr. H why I wasn't seeing Orange Cake on the grocery shelf. Thanks,
Illinois Lady

Hi! Ilinois Lady, That would be great. We do like DH cake mixes, and some of the flavors they have BC doesn't make.

IllinoisLady,

Do you think Mr. H works where there is a company store? He may be able to make special requests on your behalf.
