Could someone please suggest a good way to store knives if I do not have a storing block (I'm building my set piece by piece)?

There is such a thing as a knife magnet that is screwed into the side of a cabinet. My DD has one and really likes that the knives are available but not taking up counter space (which is limited in her kitchen). Prior to this she had a special drawer insert to hold the knives.

Becky,

Thanks for mentioning the knife magnet. A lot of restaurants use these as well and I had forgotten about them. Will have to Google and see if I can find a small one for home use.

Hi,

I have a magnet knife holder which has a bigger magnet on the back and I have it on the side of the refrigerator. I can't remember where I bought it.
I don't think those block knife holders are very good because they are difficult to clean, but they look nice when they are new. Just my opinion.

Hi,

I found the magnetic knife holders with the magnet on the back at Instant Home Organizers

Did you ever try www.dogpile.com for searching?

AuntyEm,

Thanks so much for the link; I'm bookmarking it now. Normally I use google.com or askjeeves.com for searching however I am familiar with dogpile.com.

I recently read that some nasty bacteria can make a home in those storing blocks. Damp knifes not as klean as they should be.So I am going to look into one of those magnetic ones too.
By the way HI! I am brand new here. I love the cooking/Baking sites. Ingrid/Koechin

Hi Ingred! :D

I'm glad to see you found the Dinner Doctor Forum, and appreciate your input. I had never thought about the knife blocks being a place for bacteria to lurk, but your point is well taken.
