My 6 year old absolutely loves Chinese food; in particular spare ribs. She's been begging me to make them at home and have not found a recipe that has interested me other than one on allrecipes.com. My mom used to make these but can't find the recipe. She remembers boiling the ribs first to make sure they were cooked through, then baked with a glaze of saucy Susan or some conconction of sort.

Any tried and true recipes from you folks would be greatly appreciated. I do not have a slow cooker so I need a standard recipe. Thanks so much.

Barbara, I don't know about cooking them, but we use a fantastic sauce called Ah-So on our pork chops that tastes just like restaurant style ribs. Here is a link to what the sauce is:

Braise the chops in a pan, add onions & sautee. Remove chops & onions and add a small can of sauerkraut. Heat and add a can of water. Replace chops & onions on top of the saurekraut. Cover and simmer about 1 hour.

Barbara, I noticed you don't have a slow cooker, but nearly any slow cooker recipe can also, be made by using a very slow/low temp in the oven just as well. Just cover the pan, and cook very slowly for excellent results. The same applies to using a recipe we usually cook in the oven, and making it in the slow cooker. In other words, they are pretty much interchangeable. It's just slow cooking basically. :D
