Black cherry juice is availabe in most grocery stores. I shop at Publix, and they have black cherry juice in the organic section in the tall cans and small jars. Some people drink it daily for gout.

Phyllis, I hadn't thought about health stores. Thanks. I didn't plan on making a large batch, so I don't need a gallon of the juice, just a little bit. I knew it was used for arthritis pain. Here is a link to what I had found: Cherry Juice.

As long as we're talking about cherry sauce, TGIFriday used to serve an excellent cherry-mustard dipping sauce with their shrimp. I tried to clone it, but never got it quite right. I'll have to try that one again.

I agree, Phyllis, when usually we talk about Tbsp. of corn starch to thicken things, and not very many at that. If memory serves it takes half as much corn starch as flour to thicken things, so yikes! it makes me wonder if that's a typo. I much prefer using it instead of flour to thicken such things as fruits though.

Phyllis have you ever used corn starch as a dredge? That's one I've never tried.

Yes, Mary I have. My mother taught me to toss homemade french fries in corn starch before frying to make them crispier. I have also made a sweet and sour chicken, similar to George's recipe where I tossed the chicken in corn starch and fried in a wok. It makes a nice crisp coating.

Phyllis, I don't think my mother ever made a french fry in her life. *sigh* Fried foods were just about prohibited at home, but that's very interesting. Thanks! That just goes to show, old dogs do learn new tricks, since I've learned one today. :D

My mother's favorite thing is to fry. I still haven't convinced her we don't eat fried foods anymore. She always manages to fry something. She's 84 and takes no medications and lives alone, so maybe all that frying made her crispy too.! :D

Hehehe, Phyllis I'm pretty much convinced a lot of it's in the genes. Some people can literally break all the health rules, and stay fit as a fiddle. Oh! we should all look so perky and alive at the age of 84 as your mother does. She's quite a lady, and fried foods didn't seem to effect adversely her for sure. :D

I'm intrigued. George, did you ever find your cherry juice? How was the chicken? I'm also wondering if you could substitute cranberry juice.
