 Post subject: STAT substitution idea
PostPosted: Sun Oct 29, 2006 1:51 pm
Hello gang,

Want to make a shrimp bisque tonight but the recipe calls for brandy to finish it off and of course it's SUNDAY IN THE SOUTH so I can't buy brandy.
WHAT CAN I SUBSTITUTE FOR THE BRANDY?
:?:

This is from the alcohol subsititions under the sticky:FAQ and hints:

For 2 tablespoons rum or brandy, substitute 1/2 to 1 teaspoon rum or brandy extract for recipes in which liquid amount is not crucial. Add water, white grape juice, or apple juice, if necessary to get the specified amount of liquid.

I was thinking apple juice or maybe 1/2 apple juice and 1/2 water.

If you have any white wine on hand, I'd use it instead.

Hello ladies! :D

For all kinds of alcohol aliases, and several other helps don't forget to check the Sticky Thread "BAKING FAQ and HELPFUL HINTS." What time is dinner tonight, Karen?

ate all of the bisque. It was sooooo good. Just had some french bread on the side, perfect. I deglazed the pan with broth(since I didn't have brandy). Then at the end since I didn't have sherry I used cooking sherry just to give it that taste and it was fine.

YummmmY

Keep up the good work girl! It's so much fun to cook for someone who enjoys helping eat the results. Sounds like cloud nine to me! :D

Karen, I can't think of a nicer, more deserving person to which this could happen. The very best wishes to you and yours. Now, young lady, how about this Christmas? Seems to me it's looking very promising, and like a happy one to me. :D I'm excited for you!

will be different, but I'm hoping with this wonderful man in my life it will be more tolerable, as I wasn't looking forward to them at all.

I know dear, and I was really dreading them for you, but now, things look so much better, so just hang in there. See me grinning and my happy heart for you? You're going to have to fix him some of those pretty things that you make at Christmastime. I bet he will enjoy, and love the fact that you've made them.
