AuntyEm you'd better watch it!!!!

Well we had pizza and it was soooo good. Was glad too b/c Tuesday thanksgiving went soooo late. Didn't get home until 2 AM!! We all just had so much fun catching up not one person looked at the clock!

But I had to get up early, finish packing, clean my kitchen from the mashed potato extravaganza, go to work, and then fly home. I slept about 3 hrs last night. Mom and Dad picked me up at the airport and we stopped at my favorite pizza place on the way home. It was PACKED. All 4 ovens were FULL. I was thinking of you guys.

Mom insisted on real china in the dining room (apple doesn't fall from the tree I guess).

So.... one of the guests last night brought a mystery side dish... it looked like a really good potato au gratin.. more cheesy, not creamy at all. It wasn't potatoes... it was pineapple. I guess trader joe's is selling it these days. I am on the fence... I think it was pretty good, but it was one of those things where I bit into it, expecting potatoes and got pineapple.. kinda weird.

And for the record... I had pork chops for dinner on Monday night.. Pork and Pizza! We are a bunch!!!!!

AuntyEm, I'm afraid we are going to have to come tie you to a recliner along with Phyllis so you all will get well. You're really trying to do too much. :(

Glad you made it ok Catherine. I'm wondering if that pineapple casserole was made with Ritz crackers? I've been wanting to make one of those for years...no excuse...I have at least one recipe for it, so maybe, this year? I guess I'm afraid it will be something we won't like and then I'll be stuck with a bunch of it wondering what to do with it.

Yes I believe it had Ritz on it.

It was.... unique.....

I would eat it again, but I wouldn't make it.

It was funny though... 50 people spread out over three rooms... no one was filling anyone else in... you could really tell each time someone new took a bite. It was kind of the practical joke of the night.

Catherine,
That's a pretty common dish down here for a potluck. The ingredients for the one I have are pineapple, cheddar cheese, sugar, flour, ritz crackers, and butter: just in case you actually wanted to know what it was you ate! LOLOL I've never particularly cared for it, but there are some who love it! At our former church, there was always at least one of these, along with a dish of pear salad (canned pear halves with cottage cheese in the middle!)

Oh me! now you all see why I'm leering of trying some of the southern dishes...well afraid is more like it. I love pineapple, but I'll bet that's the dish so many southerners do make, and after hearing from Diane just now, I think I'd better not even try it, because that's exactly what's in it.

I can only imagine how a person would nearly go into shock if expecting au gratin potatoes or something similar, and ended up with that in their mouths instead. I have heard of holiday dinner parties not being complete without this dish on it.

You just never know what "interesting" ingredients people will throw together! As far as dinner tonight...I had a container of chili in the freezer that got thawed in the microwave really quickly while the water for spaghetti was boiling. Threw the bags of salad and cheese on the table, so everyone could help themselves. Homemade dinner in 30 minutes, all cooking while I was mixing up a cake!

Aunty Em, come on join me - we can take turns in the recliner. I have a nice furry cat to keep my lap warm. We might have to play referee between her and the dogs. :D

DH got ham, sweet potato souffle, garlic mashed potatoes and green bean casserole. I did make a pecan pie today and then rested afterward.

I actually cooked supper for the first time tonight and guess what I fixed - yep, PORK CHOPS. Made my pork chop skillet where you brown the pork chops (dusted with flour), layer thinly sliced onions and potatoes on top and pour a can of chicken broth. Put a lid on and let it simmer. Comfort food. DH warmed up a can of veggies to go with it.

One of my mother's friends makes that pineapple casserole all the time for pot luck events. I have never developed a taste for it myself, but many do seem to like it.

As it turns out, my mother is going to be here tomorrow with us. She's riding down with some friends (2 hour drive). The rest of the family flaked on her (excuse me - had conflicts and couldn't make it  ). She's bringing chicken and dressing and requested my Jalapeno Cranberry Sauce. I've got it on the stove now. So not much to do tomorrow but warm up and get it on the table.

Yes, Mary, I'm pacing myself and not doing too much. I can tell when I need to get back to the recliner.

Hope you all have a Great Thanksgiving. Then we'll all be ready to start that Christmas Baking!

 Phyllis, you must have been reading my thoughts as I was reading what you said, and you wonder who would have been cooking the dinner, had you not stayed home? It never fails.

Hi,
I've fallen asleep several times. The Shi-Tsu, curls
up in my lap and the chichaua sleeps on her blanket at my feet, but when she wants attention, she give me a real sharp bark. They are just like kids. I don't think there is going to be any baking tomorrow, maybe on the weekend. My new bundt cookbook came today, so I may have to try something out. I'd really like to try that cake Martha Stewart did on her show, but not until my son is here and can take some to the granddaughters. That cake looks huge and then there is the bourbon glaze on it. That should help the pain.
