Just found out about a co-worker's birthday tomorrow, and that she likes spice cake. You guys could save me a trip if you can suggest a CMD (1st book) spice cake recipe so I can pick up the ingredients on the way home from work. Tell me what I should make, and what ingredients I'll need (anything that I wouldn't necessarily have "on hand" - please include all perishables [milk/sour cream/etc]).

I don't know if this is too late for you (I usually check the board in the early morning). There are two cakes I'd recommend: the applesauce spice cake on pg 89 and the buttermilk spice cake on 408.

For the applesauce spice cake you need sweetened applesauce, buttermilk, butter, vegetable shortening, lemon, apples, and pecans (I didn't use the pecans).

For the buttermilk spice cake you need: buttermilk, sweetened applesauce, and vegetable oil.
