I've tried the apple caramel and the triple chocolate and was not impressed with either. Has anyone had any luck? I've even tried "doctoring" them and the chocolate one fell once out of the oven and the caramel still just tasted sweetly blah.

Anybody had good luck? They really look good in the pictures, but....

Desiree,

This is interesting. I am wondering what in the ingredients for these mixes is producing the outcomes you are experiencing. Do you think the mixes are just too heavy or are the flavors more the issue? Not sure what the directions call for but you might try separating the eggs, whipping the whites separately and adding them into the batter at the end of the mixing process. I have tried this technique several times both with mixes and scratch recipes and have gotten good results.

I have seen these mixes on store shelves and have considered picking up the carrot one but my baking has trended to scratch over the years so I fear the mix would sit on my shelf for a good long while.

I haven't seen these mixes at all. I will keep a look out for them, though. If you had the same problems with both mixes, it might just be that these Decadent Mixes are formulated differently, and doctoring doesn't greatly affect the flavors.
