I have to make a graduation cake for a friend and they want a tiered cake that is Marble. Does anyone have a favorite chocolate and Yellow cake they like that is firmer in texture so I can use it for tiers...you know rises well?

Kelly,

Given that you are making tiers it would probably be also helpful for you to have a sturdy cake thus I am going to recommend The Best Pound Cake from the August 2001 newsletter (almost 10 years ago...wow!).

The recipe produces a lot of cake and the addition of a cup of flour makes it a sturdier. If you decide to go with this recipe I would also read through some of the older discussion board threads on this cake as there were many after it was featured in the newsletter. Definitely come back and let us know how your creation turns out (and post a pic!).

Happy Baking!

I actually love this recipe, but never think to use it for some reason. I really love the worlds best cupcake recipe, but it doesn't rise well as a cake (great for cupcakes).

What do you suggest for chocolate? Or can I just substitute a chocolate cake? She wan't marble which I dislike but it's her cake.

Kelly,
I have really wanted to start baking cupcakes, given that they have become so popular. It seems like Cupcake stores are popping up everywhere! What book is the World's Best Cupcakes in? I don't recall that particular recipe. Good luck with your cake, don't lose your marbles :D
Thanks,
Piper

Thanks for all your suggestions. The worlds best cupcake or birthday cupcake is in the cupcake doctor. I ended up making a WASC cake in white and chocolate and Zebra mixing it in the pan. It was a huge hit.
