Hi Everyone! For those of you who receive the newsletter, my true identity has been unveiled, so I'm here to introduce myself properly. Though I serve as Info during the day, I also love to cook, and tending this board every day for the last few years has led me to bake a number of the cakes.

So, in my real life, as Amy Lewis, I'm married (just celebrated the first anniversary), mom to 2 cats who think they're dogs, and the head baker of my group of friends. As such, I make a lot of occasion and birthday cakes.

So here's the ever-changing top 5 cakes list:
1. Chocolate Banana Poundcake with Cinnamon Glaze
2. Festive Cran-Orange Cake
3. Carrot Cake with Orange Cream Cheese Frosting
4. Peanut Butter Cake with Chocolate Frosting
5. Chocolate Covered Cherry Cake (the first one I ever made, and the one I get asked to make most often)

Basically, anything with bananas (which always seem to ripen to fast) and a German Chocolate mix or frosting are also favorites. Plus, the list is heavily influenced by my SIL (allergic to nuts), who lives near us and can convince me to cook anything for her by simply mentioning it! I grew up with my mom making me a birthday cake every year. We have that tradition now, and all my friends can choose a cake and I'll make it for them. It brings a little tradition into these hectic times!

Info, aka Amy

Hi all,
I am forty years old, I have been married 15 years and have 2 kids. A daughter who is 11 and a son who is six. I live in just north of San Diego in Encinitas, a small coastal town. I am an Art Director for a company that makes coffee table books.

I started taking a cake decorating class in January and needed at least a cake a week for class. I was getting bored with the plain mixes when my kids got me the Chocolate Cake Mix Doctor book for Mother's day (I think they were bored with plain mixes as well!).

I think my favoritres are:
1. Snickerdoodle Cake
2. Darn Good Chocolate Cake
3. Pumpkin Spice Cake
4. Ever-So-Moist Chocolate Layer Cake
5. Chocolate Midnight Cake

Can't wait to dive in to the community boards!

Hi,

I am a 33 year old, working, mother of two toddlers. I enjoy baking (because of the relaxing nature and enjoyable end product). My five favorites are:
The original Bacardi Rum Cake (what does this say about me?)
Banana Cake (with Cream Cheese Frosting)
Chocolate Eggnog Cake
Pumpkin Spice Cake
Orange Dream Cake

I also like to experiment and vary some of the cakes in the DR's book. I tried an variation for Christmas last year of the Bacardi Rum cake which used Tom & Jerry proportions of Rum and Brandy instead of just Rum (for both the cake and the glaze) and I dusted the bundt pan with cinnamon and nutmeg instead of flour. Try it it is yummy.

Hi I'm Suanne, from the Los Angeles area (upstate NY originally) and I'm relatively new to this site and the Cake Mix Doctor books. I'm turning 40 on Tuesday and have been married for 4 years to someone who loves to cook. I don't share his love of cooking, but I love to bake! We don't have children, but consider our dog Honey Bear our baby. (she'll be 5 on Monday). My husband and I have our own internet marketing business....I've been in sales for years.
I bike 3 or 4 days a week....and swim in the summer months....the only way I can sample without gaining too much weight. And I love Food TV!!! (some of their community boards are very mean spirited....not like here!)
Since buying the book a few years ago, I have made some of the cakes here and there. Not until lately, have I really gotten interested in the more elaborate cakes...mostly from being on this site. (oh, and have I said how addicted I have become to this site and the book!?!?! I asked for the chocolate book for my b'day!)
So, my favorite, in order of the 3 I have made recently, are:

1-Snickerdoodle Cake wih cinnamon buttercream frosting
2-Lemon Lovers White Chocolate Cake
3-Basic Buttermilk Spice Cake with cinnamon buttercream frosting

Hi,

Im Randi, originally from California by way of Newyork and Florida. I now reside in a small town close to London, Ontario. I've been married for 8 months to a wonderful Canadian WOMEN. Ok, Im outing myself here. I think I was getting a little paranoid about calling Robin "sweetie" or my Honey. I refuse to call her my wife or my husband so dont worry!!

I just took the Michigan bar exam this week, while I wait for my results, Im planning our 1 year renewal ceremony/Reception on June 19th. We had a very small backyard wedding which is why we are having the big party in June. Im a former chef( this whole cake mix thing is new to me). I worked as an assistant pastry chef in California and as a private chef for a few families when I was in college. I do a lot of my cooking from Cooking Light magazine and Everyday food.

I had my heart set on Martha Stewarts coconut cake until I started reading these boards.

I have two dachsunds that are the love of my life. I love to shop, swim, cook, travel and work-out.

I've only made 3 cakes from CMD. I made Darn Good chocolate last night, Marsha's lemon cake( this morning) and Icebox coconut years and years ago. I didnt let it rest for three days so I wasnt impressed, thats why I shyed away from these books. However, I have many I want to try.

Definatly the Almond cream cheese pound cake, Kathy's coconut cake, lemon lovers white chocolate, the white wedding cake, snickerdoodle. and the bannana cake with caramel frosting. There are a few more, dont remember off the top of my head.

Hi Everyone,

I'm Stacey, 35, married for almost 7 years, with no children (yet). I live in northern, urban New Jersey, but grew up all my life in the suburbs until I married. I am a full-time nursing student, with one more year to go. Before I started nursing school, I was an internet customer service representative.

I am relatively new to this board, and I love coming here to share ideas and read the posts. It truly is a pleasure to be able to exchange ideas and tips with other members, and also to share our ups and downs about baking (some of you are so comical that I end up in stiches!).

I haven't made many of the cakes from the CMD, and that's because I keep baking these same ones over and over again! They're so delicious, and my friends and family love them. It's time to bake something new, right? I plan on baking the Apple Spice Cake next. Here are the cakes I've made many times and really enjoy:

1.) Almond Cream Cheese Pound Cake (the first CMD cake I've ever made!)
2.) Darn Good Chocolate Cake (scrumptious!)
3.) Lethal Peppermint Chocolate Cake (I now make the layers for this cake using the recipe for the Darn Good Chocolate Cake, because I like a richer texture. I also love giving this cake as a gift).
4.) Marsha's Lively Lemon Bundt Cake (is addicting!)
5.) Bacardi Rum Cake (I love giving this cake as a gift also!)

It was nice to be able to share this with you all, and to get to know a little something about you, too! :D

Hi Everyone,

My name is Phyllis and I have pan-itis

I'm 37 years old and have been married for 11.5 years. We have two munchkins, Carlene is 8 and is in the 3rd grade and Brandon, who is 5, started kindergarten last Fall. My hubby is a stay at home dad, and part time Civil Engineer. We decided when we had our son, that there was more job security with my job and the health benefits would cover the whole family. Although, we have to wonder sometimes, as my company has merged with another company and quite a few jobs are being off-shored. :?

I work for a huge computer company. I started as an R&D engineer and decided to move into Technical Training. I really enjoy training our Support folks, who handle calls from our Enterprise Customers. If it wasn't for my hubby, I wouldn't have been able to travel to Stockholm, Sweden to train last November. I taught for 10 days and ended up being gone for 17 days... I've never been away from my family for that long.

We live in San Francisco, Calfornia. We're one of the few native San Franciscans.

Our favorite cakes so far:
1. Almond Cream Cheese Pound Cake
2. Lemon Almond Cream Cheese Pound Cake
3. Bacardi Rum Cake
4. Darn Good Chocolate Cake
5. Marsha's Lively Lemon Cake
6. Chocolate Surprise Muffins
7. Apple Walnut Cinnamon Swirl
and my in-laws love the filled cupcakes

Time to try out some new recipes with my newly arrived friends.

This forum has been the best, it has great ideas and tips. I've gotten so much more adventurous and willing to experiment with the cake mixes.

Hi! I'm Pat, now from suburban Atlanta, but have lived all my life in rural Ohio (Go Bucks!!!). I'm 58 (sigh...) and newly retired from 30 years of teaching in the middle school (they're the best!) My husband was a high school teacher, but was disabled with massive brain injuries when he was hit by a Fed Ex truck as he was trying to help a student. We now care for our two-year-old granddaughter every day while our daughter and her husband work. What joy!!! Now, I'm starting to teach her how to bake - it will take some time! I love trying so many CMD recipes, but the two I've made the most have to be: The Apricot Nectar Cake and the Chocolate Covered Cherry Cake. People ask for the apricot one all the time. Right now I can't wait to try the Lemon Lovers' White Chocolate Cake; I plan to make at least one of them for our church bake sale in two weeks. I'll also do at least 12 dozen rolled, cut, and painted sugar cookies - eggs, bunnies, etc. There's nothing so much fun as baking! Pat

Hi,

I haven't made very many cakes from the book. I live alone and watch the calories. I am 64 and retired, but I bought the books for my daughter, granddaughter, and daughter-in-law. When my kids where small, I was the baker in a school cafeteria. That was when everything was made from scratch and the government gave schools so much butter, I made all the cakes with butter. Yikes, all that cholesterol!!. My daughter bakes a lot and everyone requests Darned Good Chocolate Cake.

I like reading this board when I can't sleep. I was the one looking for the Baby Food Cake.

Aunty Em
