What Can I Bring?
Potlucks and picnics, dinner parties and church socials, fundraisers, reunions, cookouts – it’s the busy age of shared meals, which means with every invitation comes the question: “What can I bring?” Anne Byrn knows exactly how to answer the question. Cutting through menu block – a condition familiar to everyone who cooks – here are more than 200 delicious suggestions for crowd-pleasing food that’s designed to travel. Each recipe comes with Tote Notes (how best to transport the dish), Big Batch (how to multiply the dish), and When You Arrive (how to put the finishing touches on the dish). Plus, there is a Notes area for each recipe, to jot down tips and log when you made the recipe so you don’t repeat yourself.
Why I wrote this book:
Five years before I even pitched this cookbook idea to my publisher, a woman chased me down after a segment on Denver television. “Write the potluck doctor,” she begged. “I never know what to bring to a party.” The idea stuck because I, too, don’t always know what to bring. I started by asking friends for favorite recipes they tote, and all these fresh and exciting new recipes came my way. This is my go-to book for weeknight dinners as well as when I am invited to potluck.
My favorite recipes:
- Eggplant Parmesan with Fresh Basil
- Eighteen Minute Salmon
- Missy’s Tortellini Soup
Recipes my kids love:
- Barb’s Taco Ring
- Turkey Burgers
- Barbara’s Oatmeal Cookies
Recipes my friends love:
- Mary’s Baked Boursin
- John’s Grilled Beef Tenderloin
- Broccoli Cornbread
